HP zv6000 Finally Died - Need to Access HDD

Well, it finally happened. My old friend the zv6000 died. Not sure if it is the power supply or something else. And just when I was going to remove the LCD display and reattach to fix a display issue. Now, here is my question: can I remove the HDD which contains 3 partitions-one with Win7 OS, and the other two with data files, and attach it to my brand new core i7 custom rig to extract that data? I was literally trying to backup the HDD as I built the new rig as a replacement. Then I was going to tinker with the screen connection to fix my LCD problem and use the lappy as a backup/travel computer. FYI-Win7 gave it a new lease on life and I don't want to give up on it so fast. Any help is deeply appreciated.

Also, the battery, like all older lappies, was considered deficient according to Win7's diagnostics, remember when that was all the rage? Am running Home Premium version.

Assuming that it is a Sata drive, there will be no problem. When my old DV7 died (bad ram slots and out of warranty), I pulled my 1 TB data HDD out and pluged it right up to my PSU's Sata plug and to the desktops mobo via Sata cable and used the data. (still have it. Getting a new DV7 soon).
The IDE laptop drives are a little trickier. If it is IDE, you will either need a external adapter or a comverter to go from 40 pin to 44 pin. With the correct adapters even a laptop IDE drive will have no problem interfacing with a Desktop mobo.
