Huge Problem!

Me and my friend Kornowski just went to PC World and bought a Geforce 7600GT PCI-e card!

I currently have the Dell C521...

It's a micro ATX case and MOBO.

We went to fit the GPU that I just bought (and don't want to take back) and it won't fit, the case will only take half size PCI-e cards!

We've come to the conclusion that we should saw a small part of the back of the case off above the GPU to allow it to fit in.

Then saw a small part of the case off to allow it to go back on!!!

Seriosly p***** off!

What do you suggest! I don't really want to spend more money on a new case!

The CPU cooler isn't a fan, it has a duct that leads to a fan on the front of the case, there's no fan on the CPU.

Also, I don't have £20.

buy a new heatsink that simply sits on top of the processor with a fan on top.
post a photo if possible.
you can pick up a new heatsink for about a 5er

The CPU doesn't have a clip for a heatsink... It has a duct that goes to the front of the computer. There's no clip for one...

The MOBO won't go in a new case, the CPU doesn't have a clip around it to take a heatsink and fan, it has a duct to the front of the case with a fan on.

Also, I'd have to get extension cables for the PSU as they're all small!

I,m not really understanding here, sounds like you have 2 problems, the card wont fit in the case (case to short) and the CPU duct is blocking your room?

Yes and now.

The PCI-e card won't go in because the case is to narrow...

The CPU duct isn't blocking anything it's just not allowing me to put a heatsink and fan one, there isn't anything to clip it on to.

Well it would really be hard to tell ya to go cutting on the case without a photo of it, what kind of case is it-brand-model, and as far as the M/B goes if theres no heatsink clips on the board because it has a tunnel theres not much you can do.

This would be why you don't buy a dell... Anyway, long thread short the card isnt going to fit so either get a new case or return the card, there is not magic potion to some how shrink a card so im not entirely sure what you want is to suggest....

Yea I agree you would have to really screw your case up and its not worth that! Just take the card back and try to find a low profile, dont think they made a 7600 low profile, I have seen a few 7300gs that were, not for sure about ATI

yup just got a full refund on the card now im gonna smash the computer with a hammer

happy days :)

thanx for the imput

same there
it was the right RAM just faulty but i figured y have the RAM with out the GPU
