Hyper Threading

Why didn't intel make their multi core cpu's hyper threading compatible? Wouldn't it increase their speed even further?

Lol it's the software that usually isn't HT compatible buddy.

hyper threading was closely tied to the Pentium 4 netburst architecthure, whereas core is based on the classic pentium design (pentium 3, pentium M etc...) .

Hyper threading drawed much more power too, which is probably why it never made its way into the M, and therefore the Core, which have a reputation as being power efficient and good for notebooks.

From what I was reading, Intel's next generation of processors will include HT on all cores, which would be very interesting to see.

yeah, i doubt it will make much difference though. I have worked in servers which have multiple HT enabled xeons before, and it never seemed to improve performance much.

I don't see it being much benefit either, as with the P4's it helped with multitasking since there was only one core, but if you have HT on a quad core I can't see how it would make that much of a difference when quad cores are barely being utilized today - unless you have like 30+ apps open at once, lol.

yea.. plus i can't see it being useful with a core2duo much either.. the thing is that the pentium 4 used hyperthreading well because the technology utilized all the wasted cycles that pentium 4's architecture never really utilized.. whereas core2duo isnt so wasteful with its frequency : performance ratio.
