hypertransport/fsb comparison-

I'm selling my AXP 2600+ (333mhz or 266mhz fsb, not at home right now, the ram is 266, so i'll bet with that) and getting a sempron or athlon 64 (the processor needs to be under 100 bucks)......which should i get? I'm thinking athlon64 , i want a pci-e slot, ...... i want some cash too...i the best processor for the buck

I doubt you'll find a new Athlon64 for under $100. What exactly are you after? Obviously you want a processor, but if you want PCI-E slot that means a mobo as well. Is it a whole new PC?

Basically, you won't get significantly better peformance than your XP 2600+ with a sub-$100 processor.

would this be a good choice? it looks good to me, most of the mobos are 60+ bucks and the processor much higher, tell me man, lol, its the best i could find

Individually, you're looking at $49 for the board, and $121 for the CPU, for a total of $170 from newegg, so you're saving $5 with the combo. The board doesn't support PCI-E, which you've listed as being a major consideration, and frankly isn't that great. I'd be inclined to spend a little extra money on a board that does.

Here's an alternative:
AMD Athlon 3000+ (S939) ($130)
Asus A8N-VM ($64.99)

For a total of $195. I know it's $30 more expensive than your option, but being a S939 based system with PCI-E, there's a lot more room for future upgrades. It comes with onboard graphics, and has a PCI-E x16 slot to add a video card.

Computer Specs 101 also provides some great ideas

Realistically the performance difference isn't huge anyway. Naturally, modern motherboards still support IDE hard drives.

there really isn't that big of a difference in performance, or price. Just look for big sales and you can grab a a decent harddrive. And pleas use the edit button instead of double posting.

lol you're real outgoing for 14 years old... i remember those days lol but i never had any friends that knew anything about computers at the time.
what do you plan on doing with your computer?
you may only want to spend money on a sempron if you're just going to surf the internet.
