Hypocrisy with LCD/CRTs?

Seems all the LCD fans out there, when they criticize the CRT-people always bring up a classic point. Refresh rate

"CRTs have [potentially] low refresh rate and that hurts your eyes etc"

Yet at the end of the day, these LCDers go and watch the game on their fancy .... TV. A low resolution, high dot pitch and interestingly enough ... low refresh device. But no complaints about the TV there (or even about it's size). Or better yet, when you all go watch a movie on the big screen ... thats a piddly 24/25/30 Hz equivalent ... yet no complaints there about refresh (or size) ...

Damn!

I was going to make that argument just now ;). LOL. Nah now seriously, CRTs are good for certain things and LCDs for other things. Kinda like the discussion concerning Pentiums VS AMDs.

JAN :D

Correct, but on a TV your not close enough to see or notice the refresh rate
Says who? :P (and yes you can notice refresh rate from far away -- because t'is a bigger screen)

A 50 Hz (or 60 Hz) refresh rate is worse on a monitor than on a TV screen, because the TV-set's cathode ray tube has phosphors with longer remanence than those used on a CRT monitor, thus the flicker of a TV image is less noticeable.

I game on a 19" LCD Samsung 912. It sucks. I mean I used to have a sony trinitron 21" but that finally blew its SECOND voltage regulator. I want a large CRT back, not because of my eyes, but because of the crisp view.

CRT monitors rulez!
But not those with Trinitron tubes. Man, I hate those two horizontal grid stabilizers. When worked for the first time on a Sony CRT I thought those were scan problems, but Photoshop's eraser tool didn't wipe them out... :P

Give it some time and you won't notice them anymore (took me ~3 days). :)

About the tv's, theres also some nice widescreens with 100Hz rates one of which served me fine for a few years and made my dvd's look amazingly sharp. But yes the dot is higher and the res is lower. =/

When I game on my crt I use 100 or 120Hz depending on used res, 10x76 or 12-10. :)

I have a 19-inch flat-screen CRT, and I love it at 100HZ, 1600x1200. I also love my laptop 15.4inch LCD at 70Hz, 1200x1024. Overall, though, I would probably go with an LCD monitor.

I defeinetly cannot stand the 15" CRT's we use at school, as with 1024*768 the max refresh rate is 60Hz, it kills my eyes after 1hr 45mins of staring at it.

But at home, using 85Hz it's fine (and my res is alot bigger). I can stay on it all day.

I'd still prefer an LCD, for space, weight, and I simply can't see these HUGE differences in quality that alot of people complain about. It looks just as crisp to me on a high quality LCD, as it does with my CRT.

The only real issue i have with LCD's at the moment is their contrast ratios and the version of "black".

however, im saving my pennies for a 24" widescreen dell :)

i find that starting at an LCD for a while makes my head hurt, i like crts better since i think they have better image quality.
