I admit to being dumb.....can anyone help?

I put a new hardrive in the computer and after installing windows my monitor would only run at super low resolution. I tried everything to get a better picture but nothing worked. The devise manager reported that there weren't enough resources for the monitor (Case 12...whatever that means) and that I needed to shut down another device. In my non-existant wisdom I disabled what appeared to be a competing video device. Now the screen is blank. I think I've turned off the video card.

Question 1 - How the heck do I get the video card re-enabled so I can at least see the screen.

Question 2 - Why won't my computer recognize any higher of a resolution?

I have a nVidia video card....not sure what model.

Did you install the drivers for your video card?

First you have to install DirectX 9.0c and then download the latest drivers for nVidia video cards, and don't forget to install the chipset drivers.

I can see a boot up screen and I can get into Bios. The screen goes dark after windows starts up.

Look for a video setting which indicates which video to use first. Choose PCI, PCI Express or AGP depending on your configuration. Save your settings and exit. Upon restart uninstall all of your video drivers and restart your PC (assuming windows XP) when the found new hardware appears insert the cdrom that came with your videocard and let it install your video controller and driver. That should get you started. Good luck.
