I am convinced that Outlook hates me......

I have tried to use Outlook 2003 for a few years....it has cost me a ton of time.

Lately, When I start Outlook it never gets e-mail from any of my 9 accounts. It sits open until I click the send/receive button manually. Yes, the option is clicked to send/received each mail....and the frequency has been set to 5 min, 10 min, 20 min....nothing has worked.

Three days ago I received e-mail back that I sent from of 2 accounts out of the 9 with the return e-mail saying "Relay Denied" I made sure that my ISP was OK......I changed the smtp to the ISP specs and it would not send at all. Set it back to the way it was....deleted the e-mail accounts and re-installed and they are working for now. But they will not get e-mail unless I manually click it to do so.

Yes, It holds all my Blackberry info and I like the way Outlook looks. I have tried Thunderbird (hated it), Pegasus, Foxmail and a couple of others and they were worse. The only one that works perfectly is Gmail.com but of course that is web based and doesn't help me out with my URL's e-mail which is why I have that many accounts.

Help Please...this is quite frustrating.

Thank you

Elliot

contact your ISP, see if they use POP/SMTP or IMAP or whatever. Probably just configured wrong, because honestly email clients should work with the simple send/receive button. If you are trying to configure POP for web based mail, you have to have that enabled in your account.

bah..outlook is not that good, for office mail i'd rather use OUTLOOK EXPRESS, which is fast and have a friendly user interface unlike the bulkiness of outlook...lol
im also teaching all users in my office to use OE instead of outlook.

ick, express is filed with security loop holes, in fact MS ditched it completely and rewrote their mail application for vista, it is simply called like windows mail now instead.

I perfer thunderbird because of the third party extensions, and I just installed evolution on my Linux rig, playing around with it a bit.

Outlook

I spoke with my ISP today and he had me change the SMTP and the port to 587.....the mail would not get out the door.....at least I can send mail even though it comes back.

I just sent an email to Italy and it came back in 30 seconds...forwarded it with Gmail...no problem. By the way the settings are the same that I have used for ages and they are the Same in Outlook Express (terrible for Spam).....in fact one other thing.....

A few times a day a couple of e-mail accounts keep downlaoding the same email over and over.....when I get tired of it, I go into the settings and un-click "Leave on Server" and it empties out but then I can't get that e-mail on my Blackberry or 2nd computer or laptop.

To Configure Gmail is:

pop.gmail.com
smtp.gmail.com

user name is the full email address [email protected]

Outgoing server requires authentification

And the ports are POP: 995 and click SSL

SMTP: 465 and click SSL

Then you have to go to Google and click on settings>forwarding and POP> and then click on ENABLE POP......and it works everytime.

Thanks

Elliot

ya i know its live mail now but i just don't like OUTLOOK.
i prefer something faster and lighter

Outlook 2007 is amazing, you just type your email in and your password, and it finds all the server details for you, no port messing around or anything, got all 3 of my accounts set up in settings, its extrememly easy to use now. It aslo index's all your email so you can find it easier and with Vista i can search my email from the search bar in the start menu, i was amazed at how easy it was :)

2K7 does not always find everything and the index feature tends to break emails most fo the time here at work and home. If you are fed up you can always use mozilla thunderbird i recently converted back to it becuase it worked for all my accounts and even lets me create rules and folders for my gmail unlike gmail...

I really hate to say this, but tons of email clients have been doing this for years, I personally do not like office 2007 that much at the moment because of how they changed every single thing around, but I am getting used to it now.

Outlook

I see that I am not alone......

In fact today, Outlook is not retrieving e-mails automatically and the e-mails I send are coming back "Relay denied".....YET, the exact same settings in Outlook Express are working and I am getting e-mails and sending without any problems.

Regarding Thunderbird. I never got it set up to where I liked the look and feel and 1.5 had problems. I tried 2.0 but same thing different day.

So, for now I am on OE until I can find an email client that works.

Thank you

Elliot
