I am finding it very hard to get a mac to print from a printer

I am finding it very hard to get a mac to print from a printer attached to a windows pc. They are networked via a bt 2500V voyager router.
Any tips?

I tried helping my friend do the same to his (friend 1), also another friend (friend 2) got his working.

Friend 2 installed a driver and it worked.

When i tried to get Friend 1's working, we downloaded and installed the driver (tried a few differents drivers) and no luck.

So, have you installed a driver for it?

This is easy. First off on the windows machine name the printer, and share it over the network. In OS X, open up the system preferences and the printer pref pane. Add the printer and use the full SMB path of the printer. For example if your computer's name was Windowsbox and the printer's name was HP, you would add it like this:

\\Windowsbox\HP

Select the driver and hit add, and it should work.

Thanks very much tlarkin, I went to scan TCP network but the mac couldn't find anything, even though I can find the other XP computer to which the printer is attached to in the mac shared list

I added a printer by browsing in the add printer option in mac word.

However I am not sure where I can find the driver in the mac for the hp photosmart 2710 to select in the add printer menu. I have already installed the hp software.

If you add the driver in the mac then share it on your pc, and then just point it to the path of the networked printer you should be golden.
