I am going to buy my first computer. I have been running a HP 533w. It has been a family computer for about 3-4 years and it a getting to be so slow that I want something faster. I am looking for something that download and surfing the Internet a lot faster. MAYBE some light gaming.

I was thinking a HP s7500 series. I wanted something small but powerful. I want to know what kind of processor I would need. I am think 1GB of ram, 80GB hard drive, LightScribe 16X DVD+/-R/RW drive, 15-inch LCD Flat Panel Monitor, Stereo Speakers with Subwoofer, Wireless Keyboard, Wireless Optical Mouse, and some other program to go with it. Is this setup going to be fast enough. I wanted this computer for under $850. Once I get more money I was think of putting on an external hard drive and better fan/cooling equipment.

Is this a good setup and is there anything I dont need????

Have you considered building you own computer? Building your own is cheaper and will be a whole lot better. Those computer stink for their prices.

There are several things you might want to consider...first off, like holyjunk suggested you might want to learn how to build your own PC because it will save you money, not to mention more performance. 2nd'ly...Windows Vista is about 6-8 months away from its public debut. Although it might not seem to be much..its a very large change over, 64-bit, new OS (generally last 5-7 years), DirectX 10, higher system specs. If i were you, I'd wait a little longer for a new computer...it would definetly be the better choice. As for now, you could format your computer, thus increasing system speed and operation significantly. If you have any questions on formatting let me know. :)

Yeah I really have no idea how to build a computer. I wanted a small computer because of limited space in my room and I don't want a notebook. I looked at Dell and it was around the same price but with less stuff. But I think if read up I could try to make a PC. If I could find a a great setup for $850 I would build one. But I really want a fast computer. Do you think you could find a setup for around that with a monitor.

Ya, that sounds about right....although I'm not sure youlll be able to get a LCD but rather a CRT.

I like this computer. I a think if I got it that I would put in more ram and new custom case. maybe an external hard drive, and or course it need a monitor, and a wireless mouse and keyboard. do you think I would need a better processor? Remenber I am looking for faster downloading, faster Internet, and maybe light gaming.

What do you people think?
