hi, I woke up on saturday morning still a bit drunk from the nite before and pluged my external hard drive in, the light flashed on then went out, then i realised i had pluged my laptop power lead into my ext hdd and blown the electrics, WOOOOPS

its a 2 year old seagate 320 or 360 gb( cant rember excactly), i know its not worth a lot now, but i have loads of music and films on it

can i just get a new exclosure and swap the Hdd over, ive been looking on ebay and some say they only work with IDE hadr drives, whatever that measns,

could i get a case that gets power from the USB and doesnt need its own power source, or does that only work with small HDD's

Or can i get a new seagate case, like what i have now

Thanks for any help

if the drive is blown, i would think the drive itself is dead, not the case. so no, a new case would not help.

If it was only the enclosure that was ruined you may be lucky.

But chances are that the HDD was ruined as well.

To find out for sure take it into your local computer Guru and get them to have a look at it.

yeah i thought/hoped it may just be a fuse, so i took it apart and ther are no fuses in there, i thought of just getting an enclosure from ebay and trying it, is a 3.5 IDE enclosure the one i need
