I can hear my HDD

So, just as the title says, I can hear my HDD. I just got it, literally today and I can hear a very small amount of noise when it is working. My last HDD was absolutely silent (at least I couldn't hear it over the fans).

Is it normal for a hard drive to make a bit of noise (kind of scratchy background kind of thing, hard to explain)? It is not clicking or making an excessive racket or anything. I just want to make sure it's OK.

Thanks

Every hard drive makes noise, but some are quieter than others. It's also possible that your old computer's fans were louder. Either way, if it's too annoying for you, you can get a hard drive silenter.

Seagate's are usually known for being practically silent (except for my last one :P). My Western Digital 160GB is rather noisy, at least while it's "thinking". Just sitting idle, the hum's no louder than the case fans.

Yeah, it's only maing noise when it works, and its really just a background sound (hard to explain, lke rain on a window maybe). I guess it' just louder then my last drive.

I just wanted to double check that DI didn't get a bum drive (I was an open box special...)
