i have an old computer downstairs which my parents use, and i want to change a few things in the bios.

my problem is, the ps2 keyboard only starts working after its too late to access the bios.

i dont know if im explaining this well but at a certain point windows makes the keyboard active. but i need it working right at the start to access the bios.

any ideas? im running xp pro

A PS2 keyboard should have no problems accessing the bios at bootup. A problem would lie if it was a usb keyboard and usb keyboard support wasn't enabled in the bios... Its possible that you have a keyboard like i used to have where the fkeys wouldn't work until a button was pressed on the keyboard, whether it be F-lock or a special button on a micro innovations keyboard i used to have. It's usually the Delete key or F2 key to enter the bios.

its the delete button. but if it prompts me on whether or not to start windows normally (if i have shut it down wrong) none of the keys are workin then. ill try my other ps/2 keyboard and see what happens

If you are getting to that point, then you are going way past the point to enter the bios. as soon as you restart or boot up the computer keep tapping the delete key so that you can enter the bios.

yeah he does. but it is not getting the siginal... yeah try a different keyboard. if still continues, idn... this is weard... o wait... hit a lot of keys at the same time, it should beep at you telling you to stop. do you get that?

look. the keyboard definately doesnt react until windows has loaded. its the keyboard problem

i tried my good keyboard which is also ps/2 and it worked.

thanks

They're trying to help you, and they were right, the keyboard should have worked at POST. No need to be a jackass.
