I wrote last time about a slow 6600le for my dual core amd 3800, 1gbram. bf2 was choppy as hell. i upgraded to a 6800gs. i ran at 1024 - medium settings and aa 2x. why is it still choppy? i've installed amd x64 fix, newest drivers for 6800gs. i ran dxdiag and noticed the display drivers said:

Main driver: nv4_disp.dll
Version: 6.14.0010.8195
Date: 11/11/2005

i have direct x 9.0c.
please fix this crap for me. give me links of any updates, fixes, informational pages/forums, utilities, etc that you think will help improve my fps and f***in setup. no pressure, but i might just kill myself if it doesn't improve.

praetor - HELP ME!!!

I'm getting a demo of BF2 and I'll see how it runs on my system...

One thing I've heard is that duel core really makes no difference in games. Did you know that duel processors(donno if this also applies to duel core) are actually SLOWER than single processors unless you're using an application that can actually utilize both processors?

Ran fine on my comp with all settings high and AA at it's application max(what was it, 4x?) Anyway, for your machine...

Check what's running in the background. Could you have any spyware or just other applications running?

Update your drivers. Video, chipset, sound, networking, etc... You might even want to try to disable some things such as sound or networking to see if you can pinpoint the problem...

ya for some reason ppl still play games with aim/trillian on instead of being smart and puttin on xfire or something.

best thing to do is close out of everything... best way i know how to do this, is to open wordpad, then type random stuff, then hit shut down, let it sit for a second while the "Do you wish to save changed to "Document""

then hit cancel, then mostly EVERYHING is closed :P

are you alt-tabbing out of bf2 to change the affinity to a single processor? this works for me...
if you arent -

alt-tab while running bf2 to minimize it and return to the desktop
ctrl-alt-del
click on the tab "processes"
find bf2.exe and right click
select "set affinity"
uncheck one of the boxes (choices should be CPU 0 and CPU 1) it doesn't matter which one you uncheck

does that work the same for hyperthreading in singlecore processors. like if you wanted battlefield 2 to be on one thread and something else on the other thread would that work

i do set the affinity to a single core, downloaded both a updated mobo and cpu driver, but i can't run them. i ran mobo driver, then checked in dxdiag and the date for the driver was still from last month. when i try to run that driver setup, i get an error saying that there is an instance already running. tried running it from prompt, same thing. i ran dual core driver from amd link. then i nav to the folder, double click on exe file, nothing happens. everything i can close is closed already, and my games are still choppy in 1024 and medium settings. i'm at a loss. also ran microsoft's hotfix (don't know if it worked, had to do it manually)

i want to maybe update my bios, but don't really know how. don't know what flashing actually does and what the risks are. the last thing i can't get a straight answer on is what is the correct order for installing drivers for my system?

bios, mobo, cpu, gpu, audio, ethernet, etc. plus good utilities to keep them working good. feel like i've downloaded and ran multiple installs of each one of those, minus the bios. ideas, links, info???

i dunno, but im having the same problem with quake 4. funny thing is, it ran great maxed everything with vertical sync off. turned vertical sync on to eliminate tearing, bad performance; so i turned it off. even worse performance. before i was getting 30-45 fps with everything MAXED at 10x76... now it's at 8-18fps. nothing like spending $1200 to have games run worse.

i redid my comp and installed all my games and shit forgot defrag after installing everything i was lagging in cs:s w/ a amd athlon 64 3500 1gig ram 6600gt. defraged and it sped(spelling!?) it up a lot

Funny- I have a normal P4 for now, just HT and everything runs great- except Quake 4. Weird. I got it to run for a little while decently but then it freezes, but then it runs fine again. wtf? oh well, back to messing around.

U need more ram to get a good frame rate in bf2, my friend has 2 gig and it runs fine on high. I have 1 gig, VERY CHOPPY on high and choppy for 30 seconds on medium.
