I can't get steam to work $5 reward

I haven't played counter strike in a LONG time because i can't get it to work. When i try to connect it say it is either my internet connection or the steam servers. I know its not the servers so i can figure this out. I have a linksys router model WRT54G I cannot figure this out. I unplugged the router and went directly from my cable modem to the tower and i get the same thing. I have re-dled steam many a times and nothing works. I am offering $5 through paypal for whoever helps me ruin my life by getting cs back!
