I can't play Half Life 2 anymore!!

I used to play HL2 on my old 1.3GHz and it was kinda slow but still playable. Now I tryed to install on my new computer and it completes install and adds all the icons but when I click play nothing happens?? Also the screen to enter the keycode doesn't appear, I tryed uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing different happens. In the add/remove programs it shows HL2 installed 212MB? which I find strangely low, and counter strike is no where to be found , thanks to anyone who can get me playin again.
 
How are you trying to install it? Once you first install it with the CD's (if you had them), then the best way is to go to www.steampowered.com, download the installer, log in, and then download the games that you want to play.
 
when i try to download steam , it says steam is already running on my machine and I will have to manually turn it off.
 
Is half-life 2 listed un the "my games" section?

You may want to completly uninstall steam, re-download it via the website, and try to install HL2 that way.
 
I screwed it all up now. I uninstalled everything and it still says steam is running and only one can run at a time . I'll have to try again tommorrow .

Did you log into Steam with your account? Cause you can only use the cd key on one account. So you have to use the same account that you used the first time you installed.
 
Nope , it still says only one instance of the game can be running at one time,, I went to seach for Half Life files and deleted all that came up and still get the error message, I did however get my steam account working and I'm able to play codename Gordon now. LOL. I just don't know?
 
I got it working. Once I deleted some half life files and restarted , then downloaded right from steam it worked. Thanks guys.
