PS3 Equivalent to PS3? BS!

I think I see someone that said ps3 is equivalent to 7800GTX... forgot what forum though....

well I said its BS! and heres logic, proof and reason.

Metal Gear 4 for the ps3 has outstanding visuals and graphic! its a CG-like gameplay graphic! smooth and crisp! http://www.gametrailers.com/game/1743.html

now can a 7800gtx look like a cg-like gameplay graphic like metal gear 4? no! 7800gtx max setting in any game is nothing that looks like metal gear 4! also metal gear 4 graphic is superior or in the league of dx10! and 7800gtx is not even dx10!

ps3 equivalent to 7800gtx? bs!

also an older game of ps3 like MotorStorm...... 7800gtx on any games dont even look near like MotorStorm graphic! and I dont get why i see some people said its equivalent to ps3! and yeah i see some say it technically... like the ps3 chip is based on same chip as 7800gtx or something like that.... although technically... but in the real time eyes.... in the human eyes..... in the reality eyes.... in the world eyes..... 7800gtx does not look anything near ps3!

That "technicality" is correct, the PS3 GPU is based off the 7800gtx core. It has undergone several changes however, that it is it's own chip, respectively.

It's all perspective. Look at Valve's Source games. They look damn good on even the lowliest of graphics cards. Now imagine that console devs have to apply the same amount of care and effort to their games and engines to make them look great. This is the base of how things are. You're basing what PC devs are currently doing with a PC GPU, on what console devs are able to accomplish with a console GPU. It's apples and oranges in the end, you are correct in that..

They only look better on consoles because developers can code the games SPECIFICALLY for the hardware in the console. By being able to do that, they can use lot's of shortcuts to make the game look "visually better".

Well, as hermeslyre said, the chip is based off of the same general product that the 7800GTX is, but was also changed in the process. It's kind of like how the LOTR movies were based off of the books, but a few things were changed, so a lot of people now consider them two separate entities.
