i failed to install ram lol

i tried to install 2 more gigs of ram this morning, i have a dell 531 with 2 gigs in right now, i grounded myself, did everything right but when i start the computer it says theres a hardward or software failure anyone have any clues on what could possibly have went wrong

does it work without the new ram in?

is that model limited to 2 gb ram?

maybe theres a problem with one of the sticks. first try with only the original ram. if that works then try with the new ram in its place. see if you can work out whether or not 1 of the sticks is damaged.

if that doesnt solve anything then you should run memtest

nope, got 4 total slots, windows 32 bit, i know itll only see 3 or so, the ram i got is kingston ddr2 pc2-5300, same as cruical recommeneds

the sticks are inserted correctly? (as in, fully into the slot) maybe a stupid question, but you never know
have you tried runnign teh pc with 1 stick at a time yet?

Dell claims it can take 4gbs of DDR2 677. Have you just tried the 2 new sticks you got by (there self)? It could be bad memory or that the 2 new sticks are just incompatible with the other 2.
