Hi, i just built my new computer today! which is 2 days before the release of the Nehalem. I feel weird that the the Core i7 is coming out because it makes me look old with my brand new Q6600. I guess i shouldve waited and also the prices wouldve gone down for the relase of these cores. Would i still be future proof with the Q6600? even though its 4 cores i know later on programs will use these. Also im picking up a 4850 soon which is great since it is great buyfor price. But my point is about the i7 core which i would hate to be thinking im old. What are your thoughts? are you getting the core i7? Some of you guys already have it so im embarrased. But then again the prices for the i7 build is too huge!!! So that's a plus for me. Maybe ill upgrade in a year later see how it goes.
 
Agree 100 % with Kornowski.The Q6600 price/performance with all things considered and a good OC of course, is the best deal around.

Honestly, there's really not much out there (and probably won't be for a while) that will really push a Q6600 to its limits. Heck, I'm running a dual core AMD, and I still run everything I need to completely fine.

Don't let these boards and enthusiasts circles make you think you must have bleeding edge technology all the time. ;) Unless you have extreme computing and multitasking needs, a Core i7 is going to be an utter waste of money anyway. I'm always tempted to buy a better GPU after reading specs here, but my 9600GT does just fine on every game I've played, except Crysis. Currently, I'm playing Fallout 3, Bioshock, and Left 4 Dead. They're all mainstream, modern games, and they ALL run completely smooth. I'm guessing with your Q6600, you're gonna be even better off.

Gonna wait until I start to see more limitations, or at least until prices come down.

Don't feel too bad, the cpu isnt exactly brand new now. Not saying its not good but, it's been out for a long time.

You probably got your mobo, cpu and ram for cheaper than what 6gb of ddr3 is gonna cost for an x58/i7 setup...

Also,///no such thing as future proofing...dont kid yourself into thinking you have a machine or can build a machine that will be 'future proof'...things change far too quickly to ever be completely on top of the game.
