i got a new AMD X2 4500+ cpu today and i also got a zalman CPU Cooler its an exotic one, i got the themal stuff on it i accidently got another type of themal past on it i cleaned most of it away but yea i put some new past on it and i started my computer but nothing has shown up on the monitor :(:(

Help!

so with the themal past would i matter if i had 2 kinds on it, like i got most of the other kind off it and stuff

Nah it wont affect your computer having two different types of thermal paste on it, I have two on mine and it runs just fine. When you say you 'got the thermal stuff on it' what do you mean? On the fan or the processor? How bad? Where exactly on it?

on tope of the cpu and at the base of the heatsink fan, i've built this computer myself so yeh i ain't really a newbi

i got the Asus A8N-SLi premuim 939 socket

If the thermal paste is on top of the CPU and on the bottom of the heatsync then you got it on the right places, so what's the worrying about? :S If they're the only two places that you got the thermal paste on then the paste isnt the problem. QFE on apj101, does the fan spin? Is the heatsync fan spinning around fine? Do you see anything on the screen when you first switch it on like the bios version etc? Have you checked the graphics card is in place properly? Is the monitor plugged into the card socket properly? Have you bent any of the pins in the monitor connector?

You need to answer all questions for us to help :).

oh ok, yeah i've checked the graphics card and everything is in place and that the card is in it slot, would it matter if any of that past got into the actaulle cpu slot

and yeah the cpu fan is spining the heatsick sink fan has this thing where i can change the fan speed and i got it spining at its maxmuim so yea still nothing and nothing appears on the screen at all

If you have paste within the CPU slot then this could cause a problem, especially if it's blocking the pins from touching the pin socket walls. I'm pretty sure that thermal paste isnt conductive but if you have any touching two pins at one time I'd wipe it off. Although I couldn't see how it would cause nothing to display. Wipe the excess paste off and try re-seating the CPU.

yes it would matter, and how the hell would you get some in the slot. You know you only need the tiniest amount of the paste, something about the size of a small tear-drop.

ok i'll try that but before i do would i have to wipe away the past when i seperate the cpu and the heatsink/fanto get at the slot

i i did'nt know it only had to be the size of a teardrop but i did'nt put much on it anywayz

My monitor didnt start too, the problem was ram, i bought OCZ ram with Asus P5B mother, the specialist said its the ram it incompactible, i replaced with Corsair and its ok.

P.S. If you have Conroe update the bios.
