I got me some Viruses i think (HJTL)

so over the past few days my computer has been running very slow and has been crap basically.

a few of the things that i have noticed are IE opens on its own and refreshs all of the time making my machine slow!

another thing is that the firewall had been turned off for a few days so this could also be one of the reasons that i have so many viruses! ive tryed scanning and scanning but nothing seems to be helping! thats all the info that i have so hre is my hijack this log!

System slowdowns come about over a period of time without viruses. Besides a few items you can manually remove that are harmless a good registry cleaner would most likely take care of those fast enough. The msconfig tool is also usefull for reducing the amount of items that load up along with Windows. And a second tool I can easily point you to will find and remove now useless temp install folders.

CCleaner can find a ton of useless folders and clean your IE offline content as well to frree up drive space. Sometimes that will help with virtual memoty if you are running out of available space on your drive. http://www.ccleaner.com/

thats PC Eye i have just dont what you said and im now DL regcleaner! i'll let you know what its like once i have done some more scans and that! thanks again :)
 
Once you run a good cleaner for the registry and try disabling anything unneeded in the msconfig utility you can post another log to see how things look. But any Windows installation over a year old usually sees a large amount of clutter in the reg as well as all of the temp folders created by software installers and uninstall temp folders made by Windows too. Some will even reinstall Windows after a year to get a fresh start again.

But good maintenance like a run of RegCleaner every so often does help. That one doesn't create any new values. The installer creates a desktop shortcut only. Plus you use the main window to remove registry keys for stubborn programs where the add/remove or uninstaller fails to see something gone. That works well on Vista as well as 9X-ME, NT 4.0, 2000, and XP.

The reg values posted above can be fixed while you have the HiJack This log opened. You simply place a check mark next to the values you see here not others by mistake and click the "FIX" button seen at the bottom left as shown in the capture here.

Please download FixWareout from either of these links to your desktop:

Disconnect from the internet entirely.

Double-click Fixwareout.exe to run the tool.

Click Next, then Install.

Then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.

The fix will begin; follow the prompts. When asked to reboot your computer, please do so.

Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the contents of the text file that opens (C:\fixwareout\report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.


PS: I see you've also had a Vundo infection recently, have you run a tool called VundoFix by any chance? If not, you'd better run it for good measure to ensure the hidden files HijackThis doesn't see are gone.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Step 1

Close ALL Internet Explorer windows (including this one) and Windows Explorer windows which may be open - VERY IMPORTANT!!

Run HijackThis again and place a checkmark before the following items:

Click the "Fix Checked" button and close HijackThis.


Step 2

Before doing this write down all the settings. Note that not all system/setups even have these settings, While some connection service's will require them.

These instruction's are basically for home users.

Enter your Control Panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically. Make sure the radio dial has the Green Dot in it!!


Step 3

Click Start | Run and type CMD and click OK.

At the Dos Prompt Screen, type in cd\ and hit enter.

Now type in ipconfig /flushdns and click enter! (notice the space in the middle)

Then close the command prompt.

Reboot when finished and post a fresh HijackThis log please.

nope picking up the usual really! thanks for the help! also when i tried to follow the set for flushing the dns it said some thing like...

Could be one of several things. You might want to check that the DNS Client Service is running via Start > Run > Services.msc

If not running, start the Service and try again.

Otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much about it at this stage. The HjiackThis log is clean and if there were any lingering problems connected to flushing the DNS cache, the malicious 017 entries with those particular IP settings would still be present.
 
i just ran Services.msc and when i checked the client DNS is said it was disabled! is that abad thing? should i change it to automatic? could a virus have done this?

It's not a bad thing if you connect to the net via USB modem but may cause problems if you're on a network as the computer wouldn't be able to resolve DNS. I'm not aware of any malware that actually disables this service. It certainly wouldn't harm to re-enable the service and set it to Automatic (it's default setting).


Everything appears to be in order so I guess we can wrap things up for the time being.

Disable and Re-enable System Restore to Flush Infected Restore Points

Disable and re-enable System Restore to ensure there are no infected files found in your restore points.

Click Start > Right click My Computer> Properties> System Restore and place a check next to the "Turn off System Restore" box.

Restart the machine to flush the restore points and then re-enable System Restore by removing the check from the "Turn off System Restore" box.

Then go to Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore and create a new Restore Point.
