Hello. I received my PNY 8800GT from Newegg. Man this thing is great! I only have last gen games like GTA San Andreas (and I tried the hitman: contracts demo) , but it runs them both maxed! I would like to try the Crysis demo, but I'm having trouble getting it to work.

It also seems to stay fairly cool. It has a 52 degree c idle, and GTA brings it to 62. Hitman can bring it to 70 or 72, though. How hot should it run? I've heard that they can come up to close to 100, but I'm not sure. I can't wait for some new games to come out so I can really put this thing to the test! Thanks!

Oh yeah, I'm using Nvidia Monitor. I downloaded it from their site.

congrats its a great card,i run COD4 maxed out, need for speed:pro street maxed and mostly any game maxed exept crysis.

i set that to high and it ran fine on 1680x1050 res.

my card idles around 40c

Mine idles at around 49 degrees but the air being pushed out from the fan is just hitting the bottom of the case and not being ventilated. I think the max operating temperature is 95 degrees for the GT and it starts to fry at 125.... Mine loads at 80 when playing crysis and limiting the fan to 40%. That fans LOUD! If your airflow for your PC isn't bad then you should be fine.

If you can, you should change the cooling system of your GT into a GTS double slot one, that's the best in terms of heat dissipation. COD4 does not stress the graphics card that much especially high end cards like 8800GT or 8800GTS, the real test is Crysis, and at the moment no system can run it at MAX with AA and AS enabled to the max. :(

Hello. I downloaded RivaTuner and now I can control the fan. I have it at 50% at the moment which brought the temp down 7 or 8 degrees on Hitman. They do get noisy! The auto control was keeping it at 29%. I'd rather have a noisy gpu than a dead one, though.

Where would I buy one of those coolers? I'd be willing to do so! This card is great!

You can get custom cooler everywhere, just check your local computer store, the one I opted to go with is a Zalman one, its a major manufacturer of coolers, they make GPU as well as CPU coolers.

I like to keep my fans at 100% when I game, I don't really care about the noise as I'm wearing headphones anyway so I don't even hear the fans.

Well, I downloaded the COD4 demo and it played it at a cool 62c! My processor overheated though:(. Well, it didn't overheat, but it reached 70c, so the system shut it down. I figured the stock cooler was crap, as it idled at 50c+. I've been using Arctic Silver 5. Would this guy cut it?

(copy BA24692 into Mwave's search, the link sucks)

I'd like a cpu cooler that isn't omni-directional (has sides around the fan so the hot air moves straight out), because my case has an adjustable side air duct for the cpu. It would also be nice if it was under $30, because that's about what I have:P.

For the 8800GT, would something like this cut it?

Thanks for the help! I'm just glad my processor is still good:D!

yeah well mine gets up to 94 on a really hot day if i havent set the fan to auto, while gaming.

there is absolutely no problem with anything under 80*C

but just keep it under 100 haha.

as shenry said, its somewhere around 125 that damage occurs

Ok, I'd like to reinstall the heatsink. How much arctic silver do I need to use on an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+? A small dash, or should it be spread evenly and a bit thick-like? I might have put a little too much on. Thanks!

So, just a bit? Kind of like (as someone put it) a grain of rice? If so, I have a whole plantation under the heatsink! Crap. Duhhhhh. I guess I'll fix that tomorrow..........

haha yeah its only supposed to be like a grain of rice haha. did you cover the whole thing? ewwwwwwwww... probably leaking into cpu. hahaa

Ahhh! Yeah, I did. There is about as much compound on there as there is cpu. Whoops! Haha. I'll fix that tonight when I get home and tell you how it turns out. Thanks!
