I have a desktop and it's not working right.

My computer used to turn on in 1 min, now when you turn it on it gets stuck at the loading screen, so then i have to turn it off by the the power switch and turn back on. It takes about 15 min to turn on. It also deletes or messes up a program. For example I had a game installed and it worked perfectly, until i turn on the computer the next day and it didn't work. Or I had a media player and next day it was gone. Through this I lost about 30 programs including my important files. What is wrong with the computer and how can i fix it?

Sounds like your infected.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If for some reason Malwarebytes will not install or run please download and run Rkill.scr, Rkill.exe, or Rkill.com. If you are still having issues running rkill then try downloading these renamed versions of the same program.

EXPLORER.EXE
IEXPLORE.EXE
USERINIT.EXE
WINLOGON.EXE

But DO NOT reboot the system and then try installing or running Malwarebytes. If Rkill (which is a black box) appears and then disappears right away or you get a message saying rkill is infected, keep trying to run rkill until it over powers the infection and temporarily kills it. Once a log appears on the screen, you can try running malwarebytes or downloading other programs.

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

When the hijackthis log appears in a notepad file, click on the edit menu, click select all, then click on the edit menu again and click on copy. Come back to your reply and right click on your mouse and click on paste.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log

Thank you, but

Thank you, but I have never been on the internet with that computer, nor have I transferd any files from the internet to the computer. So are there any other options?

Have you inserted a cd or usb flash drive that was previously on a different system? Other than that, I would test to make sure the hard drive isn't failing. But programs disappearing is usually signs of an infection.

Not a stick drive, but a CD. But where the CD came from the computer, it did not have any viruses. And the Hard drive and mother board are pretty old, because I put together the computer myself about 4 years ago. And another thing is that to see if it was my mother board I put in a different hard drive and it didn't boot up all the way.

You can't put in a hard drive that has windows installed on it from a different pc as the hardware is all different and won't boot up anyway. Try doing a system restore back to a day it was working fine.

Sounds like your hard drive is shot. A new one will run you around $40 on newegg, depending on size.

The cheaper way is to switch out the ribbon or cable for the hard drive. But, I agree with the other guys, sound like you are in the process of losing the drive.

well if you already tryed formatting it and tryed reistalling windows and it didnt work, then you have to buy another harddrive. Tell us what size your hardrive is and i'll find a link to a cheap one to replace it.
