I have a possible million-dollar-idea for laptops!!!

I already posted this in r/showerthoughts, but this is MY IDEA AND I THOUGHT OF IT. What do you think:

On most (or all) laptops, the intake fan above the CPU is on the bottom of the laptop and the exhaust is on the side of the laptop. When the LAPtop is on your LAP, your knee is almost positively going to be right under the intake fan, and that restricts airflow. In turn, the system is not properly cooled and it heats up. If laptops had an intake vent in one side and an exhaust vent on the other, our laptop computers would not only perform better but my jeans won't catch on fire when I try to run TF2.

Certainly you are right about fan positioning and a different design may help, but anyone with any sense does use a laptop cooler anyway.

Anyone who uses a laptop on a soft spongy surface like bed or couch deserves to have it burn out.

Your design isn't possible because of the layput of laptops these days. You don't seem to have much experience with them. If you've taken apart several of several different brands, you'd see you just can't do this.

Also, you'd never be able to get manufacturers on-board with this. They like cheap, so they cut corners wherever they can. If it dies just outside of warranty, that's good for them because the customer will either 1: Pay a high price for a repair by the manufacturer, or 2: They'll buy a new laptop.

As always, facedesk.

Take off the cover of your Gateway and look at the cooler. It's actually a heatpipe connecting the NB and CPU. The laptop sucks in cool air from more than just the grate on the bottom.

Having the fan in the middle blows hotter exhaust air on other components.

Your idea is a fail unless you want a laptop that's as thick as a brick. The bottom mount cooling is just about as advanced as you can get with standard laptops..

I agree with the others, but commend you on your thinking and desire to learn. Im not sure how old you are however its always good to see young people thinking about science and engineering. On this occasion its not a good idea, but keep going and you will get there.

"I got a million dollar idea."

And you shared it with the world. LOL

Should just have liquid cooling. Now make some money. I'm actually an amateur inventor.
