I have a question about my laptop.

I just ordered a new notebook from Dell, the E1405. Someone I know claims that I will need to reinstall windows when I get it because it will 'run like crap' because of the programs they install (such as aol, etc) and it will have alot of pop-ups or something, is this true? I just want to get a second opinion on that. I don't really want to reinstall windows because I don't want to lose Works, the anti-virus program trial I'm getting, etc.

Also I was wondering if anyone had experience with the AVG free anti-virus program. Does this program work as well as the ones you pay for or should I get Mccafe or something similiar?

I got the core 2 duo t5600, 80gb hardrive, and 1GB memory, if that affects anything.

I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum but I'm new and I wasn't really sure so yeah. Thanks for any help you can give me!

can't find out how to edit posts but I'm going to have Windows XP Media Center Addition also if that helps.

The laptop is very likely to come with pre-installed apps such as AOL trial and trial anti-virus. You should to just be able to uninstall the programs you dont want via the CONTROL PANEL> ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. If the AOL isnt removable as I have heard of problems where its difficult to remove so if this is the case when you receiev the laptop then post back and I shall help.

AVG i wouldnt say is that good. Though no doubt someone will now post saying they like it. I would go for mcafee or norton but im sure someone else will tell you different due to opinion.

I had one with a bunch of crap on it its much easier to just go into the control panel and delete all that crap and then go in and change your startupsettings and turn off all the extra shit that comes with it...

As everyone said, just uninstall the things you don't need. Chances are that they will give you a recovery disk; which means that even if you did reinstall it, it will be the same exact thing with the same exact programs. Unless you go get a new XP MCE disc and do an install that way, it'll just be a waste.
