I have more space but it won't copy!

I have a WD My Book connected via eSATA. I have been dumping files to it because i plan on cleaning out my computer. I only have about 10 gigs left to transfer over.

The drive holds 500 GB and I am using only 220GB. When I right click the drive, it even says I have half the drive free for storage. Every time I try to copy large files over (3+ GB) it says the drive is full....

I have SP3....
 
Fat32 won't support a single file that is more then 4 gigs so you'll have to break down what ever your backing up into files that are smaller than 4 gigs or you can copy everything off of that external and refortmat it to ntsf.
 
im trying to format it but when I clcik format it says that I need to close everything that is using the drive....

Its now empty and no open windows...do I need to "safely remove hardware"?
