Perhaps another gig of ram will be needed... Unless something is not compatible, I do not want to change the meat of the build, ie the case ect. Thank you for your time.

Case with supply for $50? An accident waiting to happen. sorry!

80mm fans? Newer boards seem to like 120s throughout the case.

2gb is almost a mandate for Vista depending on the games and applications you plan to run. Kingston is a great brand as well as Corsair, OCZ, Crucial, and others there.

The main concern there however is the fact that the supplies thrown in along with cases are usually the low quality type. That's one thing that should bought separately in order to find a good buy on one that will last.

I wouldn't go with that MoBo its made by a cheap company and the chipset is outdated, instead go for the Gigabyte P31 ($70) Also it might be OK, but power supplies that come with cases can be iffy on quality. So if I were you I'd get a cheaper case (one of the Rosewill ones perhaps) the MoBo I mentioned, a quality power supply, and for Vista 2GB. If this puts you over budget, you could lower your CPU to a E2140 that's a $50 reduction.

E2160's are probably the best bang for your buck, but only if you overclock them, (get a motherboard that can overclock well, and know how to do it well.) 3ghz is considered a "normal" overclock and can be done with the stock cooling device.

Video Card?

Go with the PSU I linked up above ^^^ and get this case, low cost, excellent quality, all kinds of fans/vents, great reviews.

There is a large variety of cases in different price ranges to look over at http://www.xoxide.com/mid-tower-cases.html

With the supply you pointed at earlier that would good for only the basics being only a 430w model seen there. Forget any plans on ocing. Once you get into ocing and placing good loads on a supply you then have to weigh in the amps as well as wattage needed.

You don't think that 430 would be enough for the e2160 oced to 3.0, gb ds3 board, 1 sata hd, 1 pata dvd burner/drive, with a XFX 8600gt XXX card *(no additional power plug) I'm thinking 430 should be enough but I'm far from an expert. Thats soposed to be an excellent high quality ps to that actually maxes out a lot higher. 12v rail is only 18amps but I think it will be ok for me whats your imput.

For any 8600 series card the minimum recommendation alone is 450w there. The next step before choosing a model card that requires more is knowing what type of case is in mind here besides the cost factor. Gaming and multimedia alike love resources!

Also starting with a little more then needed helps later when adding to or simply upgrading the current build. For simply web browsing and an occasional gaming session or run of WMP why the latest card when driver support is there for DX9 cards?

For the basics you can always go for a larger supply and better card later. An hd 2400 can easily pass for the time being. But all this depends on the build will be used for. Being limited to a $400 budget also means saving cost on a video card and using onboard sound over buying a separate one there like an X-Fi fatality with control panel?

Obviously the price tags while still seeing a good supply and board to start off with are the main concern. Basics! Any addons have to be "basic" including the video card until items can be upgraded later.
