I bought a ASUS maximus formula motherbroad and a new cpu. I installed this two new hardware in the computer with my old hard disk drive and two dvd-r one is a dvd writer. I plug in every thing and did everything right, but i can't get it to go into windows. when istart the computer two options pop up one of them is to go into bios and the other is a bois message about the two dvd-r and writer. if i skip the two options it goes straight to windows xp logo and flashes for a .0 secs and restarts the computer and every starts again. Its like that every time. plz give some advice of how to fix plz..

You'll need to:

1) Do a repair
2) Reformat

Right now your HDD is trying to use your old drivers on the new hardware. You can't plug and play Hard Drives.

how do i reformat the computer? I cant get into windows.

Ooo, I want to hear about this too. I always thought you could plug an play them, but I've never actually tried. If you can't plug and play, what do portable external HDDs do for you?

Well I hope you don't have any valuable data on the drive (I'm sure there's a way you can back it up...but I'm not positive).

Anyways, insert yours Windows XP/Vista/Whatever OS you have disk in the drive. Go into "setup options" (F12 on my computer...depends on the mobo) and select "Boot from CD." Follow the Instructions to format/reinstall Windows.

i'm assuming your old devices are pata. if so did you set the jumpers correctly?

otherwise....

to reformat go into bios. set primary boot device as one of your optical drives. if you don't see all your drives (optical/hard drive) then you didn't set the jumpers right. if you do then continue with this step. insert windows cd into your chosen primary boot device. click save and exit.

if you have valuable data in your old hd then i recommend a reformat and installation into one of your new drives. once you've done so go back into bios and set primary boot device as the drive with the new windows installation. then you can copy over your old files. once done you may reformat that old drive using the disk management function in your operating system or a 3rd party software.

Take the serial number off your HD and and check it with the manafacturer. That is the best way to know, it might even have a little diagram on the HD itself. After that, simply insert the Windows OS Install disc and follow the prompts. I will be up all night if you're trying to do this tonight.

Hell, send me the HD model number, I will look it up.

once you have the jumpers set properly your drives will be recognized in bios.
then in bios change the primary boot device as the drive that has the OS. save and exit.

once you load the os your computer will install a bunch of hardware and asks for a reboot. you should be able to use your comuputer without reformating unless you have a lot of driver conflicts.

again if you do decide to reformat put the new OS in one of your new drives so that you can copy over your data from your old drive before wiping that clean
