I may be out 20 bucks!..help

Bought Spyware doctor 2010 with anti virus at Wal mart for 20 bucks..it had such great reviews from pc mag and others..well it hogs my cpu up to 100% just idling..I don't have the greatest computer but plenty enough for most anti virus programs.....Windows XP pro 32 bit service pack 3....a inter Pentium 4 2,66 GHZ cpu..1gb of ram...Wal mart won't take back software i don't believe..

anyone have this problem?:eek:
 
You're out $20. The software really isn't all that great. Free programs such as Malware Bytes, SuperAntiSpyware and Spybot do as well if not better.
 
Your just out the $20, chalk it up to learning something new. I would recommend not even looking at the security/repair software section at stores like wal-mart.

If you want to see the negatives associated with a good or service, you could try "Complaints Board" web site. I use this a lot while considering buying something new, especially if its an expensive item.

As said before, Malwarebytes and Superantispyware work much better than most things you can buy from local stores.
 
Get rid of it, uninstall. Install either one that johnb35 told you. Then install AVG or Avira free for virus protection.
 
Could probably sell it on ebay/craigslist/etc... for about $10 or so and cut some of your loss. But my father did the same thing and I had to slap him. There's so many decent free programs out there.

after the trial version of Norton, you should download AVG antivirus free and what you should deal with malware is to choose a good antimalware tool such as superanti spayware(I only use its free version) or IObit security 360(pretty new, but good).
