so i couple minutes ago i was trying to figure out how to get my router to work so i was messing around with network set up wizard...i dont know what i did but when i clicked "restart" for the changes to take place, it didnt restart again. It goes to the start up screen where the little blue lined bar goes by a few times, and then it immediately restarts again and again.

I tried clicking "start up windows with last known good configuration, and i also tried system restore but it failed to yield and results. right now im typing this in safe mode. If anyone knows how to fix this PLEEASEEE help me out:(

Can you remember what settings you changed? If system restore don't work, then you are looking at doing a repair install of the operating system.

Well first i clicked "this computer connects to the internet through a residential gateway[...]"

For computer description i typed in (my name's) computer

for workgroup name i changed MSHOME to HOME

i then clicked "no" for sharing printers/share folder

It did the loading thing or whatever it is and then i clicked "just finish the wizard"

A popup came up saying that windows has to restart...i clicked "restart now" and thats about it.

Have you tried holding down the F8 key and trying to get into Safe Mode. If you can get into Safe Mode you maybe can do a System Restore.

Reread his first post. He said he tried doing a system restore and it didn't work.

I should have read the whole thread. Sorry for telling you to do something you already did.

Backup all the data you value to a second storage device before you try anything.

Do you have access to a windows XP install cd or perhaps you already have the recovery console installed before this happened? The process is very detailed and involved but you can actually do a system restore from the recovery console. I've done this procedure a few times and it works like a charm.

Yes, try a system restore via the system rescue disk. I have to do this in windows 7 when a simular thing happened. The system restore points had wierd characters in it and would not work. Found out later that there are actually two copies of your information on your drive. One in the system partition and one in your boot disk. If they do not match this type of problem happens. Doing a restore via the rescue disk compares and uses the valid information one. (Kinda guessing here but worked for me).
If this doesn't work you may try a few things via third party utilities (boot managers, partition tools, etc,) But back up before playing that far.
Good Luck, ;)
