I need a budget gaming processor

What is the best option for a moderate gaming processor under $100?

Geeks.com has a 3.0 GHZ Pentium D 925 for $82. It has a 4 MB cache which is good for that price range and a 833 FSB. As far as GHZ goes, this processor seems great but there has to be some drawbacks.

The site also has some older and cheaper Pentium 4 processors that are 3+ GHZ.

I have the E6300 and will be toying with that once I completely understand how everything works with my Mobo.

i highly recommend the core 2 duo e4300 allendale. the thing has massive overclocking abilities, you can easily push it to 3.0ghz on the stock cooler. i bought mine for 80 bucks at frys electronics. i believe it costs a little more on newegg, but it shouldn't be too much.

I doubt it unless it was on sale... $129.99 on sale.

Oscar, what makes this processor better than the ones I mentioned. I'm just would like to know what to look for in a good processor.

I need a motherboard as well. I was going to ask next how good of one i needed since I'm buying a budget processor.

I believe you mean 800Mhz Bus, not 833.

For under $100, your best bet would be some of the low-end Core-based processors, not the Pentium D.

Pentiums are outdated, and are way less efficient than the C2D. They run cooler and faster. The E2180 is like 2 processors running at 2GHz for your processes, but you do not add 2+2 = 4GHz, it doesn't work that way.

Some people have got it to around 3GHz with an more expensive air cooling setup, so you could overclock if you want. I would also take note in what chupacabra said, you cannot upgrade an P3 to an Core 2 Duo processor. Make sure you motherboard supports the socket type, FSB, and processor.

could you recommend a motherboard that would be perfect for that processor? again, i want something that is decent, but i'm looking for the most bang for the buck.

thanks for all the help guys
