I need a driver for my modem

I have to go to a public computer to post this. I recently updated my computer from Windows 98SE to Windows 2000 and it can't detect my modem. My mom's computer is super hard to take apart to look and see the exact name on the modem, but under the device manager it says it is midd\\ssing the driver for a modem called PCI Simple Comunications Controller and I look online to download the driver but can't. The only download links I can find link to windows update and that won't work because I can't use the computer I need to update to download the driver. Please help me, I'm in desperate need to reconnect to the internet.

Without being able to take it apart, what I myself would do is go back to Win98. Even if it means a reinstall. I'd then open up Device Manager and find out what kind of modem it is. If you still have the Win98 drivers, I'd then get online and search for 2000 drivers, download them and save them for your 2000 install. Then I'd install 2000 again and the 2000 drivers.
