i need a graphics card

Don't double post.

As i've said in numerous other threads, dont waste your money on a low-end/mid-ranged DX10 card. For the same price you can get a much higher performing DX9 card. I would recommend the 7950GT, which outperforms both the 2600 and 8600 series.

Agree with OMEGA, even though i have an 8500GT.

Yeah, big mistake. Don't think because it's in a higher series it's a better card.
It seems all cards from 000-600 are worse than the top cards from the last series but the 800+ are much better than the last series of cards and usually support extra things or what have you.

Examples of this:
6800GT is better than a 7400GS
7950GT is better than a 8400GT
8800Ultra will be better than a 9400GT or whatever comes out no doubt.

They release the highest end of the series first anyway, they will start with the 9800's and work the way down, not sure why they do it like that but meh :P

So yeah, go with a 7950, don't be fooled by the series number :D

Well said. The best way to actually determine the performance of an nVidia card between the current generation and the previous generation, is to compare it by the model number, however don't look at the first number, look at the second. Such as x600GT vs x800GT, where the "x" would stand for either the 7 or 8 series in this case.

i would recommend a 8600gts, its about equal to a 7900, it also has dx10, check out a video of me using one, mines $170 because its overclocked

No, the 7900GS actually outperforms the 8600GTS in most benchmarks. And as i've said mannnny times, buying the overpriced 8600GTS for DX10 games is stupid, because by the time theres a significant difference between maxed out DX9 and DX10, your card cant handle it.

hmmm so there isnt a huge differnce in DX9 and DX10...cause in that case i can get a 7900gt for about 130
Right now not really, but thats not the point. The 8600GTS or other low/mid end card wont be able to set the game settings to high enough settings to really see a difference between a high end DX9 card/settings.
