Hello, i really really need help installing an OS, i bought this computer off a guy, it's just a simple computer it had XP profesional but it was in GERMAN, i thought that was fine because i have a windows XP CD, so i get home hook it up yo my monitor and i couln't understand anything, and i didn't even have the guys password, (he sold it to me off the trunk of his car ), so i tried installing XP but it won't get it is there anyway i can install XP using any other method, i already went into the BIOS and changed the boot order to boot from the CD, i even installed Windows but it doesn't load, it just gets to the screen where it says Windows XP home edition. and it doesn't do anything. Can somebody please help? thanks i appreciate it.
Try formatting the drive or deleting all partitions, you can do this using a linux live cd. Then either reinstall windows or try Linux. It works on anything (within reason, lol).
I reccommend (and am using now) Ubuntu.
He sold it to you from the trunk of his car? That sounds more than a little fishy...
Like Parky says, your best bet would be to repartition and format the drive. Any Linux Live CD would do, just be sure to make the partition type either FAT32 or NTFS to avoid complications.
While you're at it, consider going dual-boot and keeping a linux on there...
