Hi guys.

I'm trying to save money while building a computer.

My options:

[939-pin] AMD® Athlon-64 3700+ CPU w/ Hyper Transport Technology [+ $60]
[939-pin] AMD Athlon-64 X2 3800+ CPU w/ Hyper Transport Technology [+$145]
[939-pin] AMD® Athlon-64 4000+ CPU w/ Hyper Transport Technology [+ $172]
[939-pin] AMD Athlon-64 X2 4200+ CPU w/ Hyper Transport Technology[+$217]

Those are the upgrade prices at IBUYPOWER.

I'm building a computer for the FUTURE as well as NOW.
I don't do "VIDEO RECORDING/EDITING" while playing games, but I will multitask somewhat obviously.

THIS COMES DOWN TO A GAMING MACHINE'S STATUS in 4 to 5 YEARS.

Are the differences in Athlon64 Speed significant for the PRICE, and should I get X2 over not-X2?

PLEASE HELP ME CHOOSE. Thanks (I only get one computer every 5 years).

Since you only get one every 5 years, i would recommend the AMD X2 3800+, and you can most likely overclock it to AMD X2 4200+ speeds.

umm... get the athlon 64 x2 3800+... for price and technology.
you can change frequency... common o/cs for the 3800+ are 2.4ghz.
i got there without even needing to raise vcore.
thats about as fast as an x2 4600+... or for single threads as fast as a 3800+ single core.

you can change frequency... common o/cs for the 3800+ are 2.4ghz.
For an $80 delta between the X2-3800 and X2-4200 and the capcity to hit 2.8GHz on aircool with some vcore increases, id take the X2-4200 (plus thinking down the road, a X2-4200 will sell better than a X2-3800)

i didnt change the vcore at all on my X2 3800+... and still got to 2.4ghz. im sure i could get higher if i wanted to produce massive amount of heat for my vantec tornado and aerocool gt-1000 to take care of, but why when my cpu will last longer without raising vcore?
get the X2 3800+... or the 4400+, remember frequency can be changed, cache size cant!
