Hey guys. I tried a printer on my new computer, with an ASUS P5GD1 motherboard, and it only printed pink. I thought it was just the printer, so I tried a different one. Same problem, only prints in pink. So I'm thinking I need a driver for my serial port of my P5GD1, since these are my first printers on here. I have looked at ASUS.com, and had no luck finding a driver. I tried google briefly and had no luck. Anyone know what I shoudl do?

Thanks a lot,
Derek

the drivers for you system wouldn't really have an effect on your printer.
when you say you tried a different one was that a printer, port or ink cartridge.
also, ensure that you have installed all of the software that came with your printer and print out a test page, you might also want to clean the head if you have the option.
also, you make no mention of whether its a USB or parallel port printer.

Hey, thanks for the re. I tried a different printer. It did the exact same thing, it printed pink only. Both the printers I have tried are really old ones, and didnt have any discs. I said it was a serial port, but I'm an idiot, I meant parallel port. (If that's the one that printers usually hook up to (not USB)). So that about covers it. I will try looking for a parallel port driver, not a serial port...lol

Thanks a lot,
Derek

lol, i dont think so...I just looked around to see if there was some weird setting, but I didnt find anything out of the ordinary. Also, I downloaded a driver for my most current printer and it still doesnt work right.

So i could really use some help, if anyone has any idea why my computer wont print....With two seperate printers.

are you running service pack 2? im sure there were problems with printers in pre-service pack 2 versions.
also, experiment with the different parallel port settings in your bios; there shouldn't be more than about 3 to choose from.

Hey, I'm running SP2. I never thought of checkin out BIOS, I'll try that right now.

Thanks a lot,
Derek

Hey everyone. I looked in BIOS, and the options for the parallel ports were all number related, and I didnt think that had much to do with it...If that makes any sense. I tried the first printer on my parents computer, and it did the same thing that mine does, it prints pink only. And when I try to print in greyscale, nothing is printed at all. So it looks like a problem with the printer, because it did it on my parents also. But I dont get why both of the printers would do the same thing....I'm starting to think maybe they were old print cartridges (unopened, but sitting around for a long time) and that they dried out...I dont know...ANy ideas?

Thanks a lot,
Derek

probably an empty or dry cartridge, but i would have thought the software that came with the printer would have shown some sort of message saying the cartridge was low.

Well, it didnt have any software with it. On the side of the cartridge it daid it was full, but you wouldnt know if it was dry...I dont know. I'm wondering now if its worth it to buy new cartridges just to see if that fixes it.

its a tough call cos cartridges aren't that cheap. you might wanna check on the net for software for your printer just to make sure
