A friend of mine built my computer and now my fan is acting up. He's not aroud to fix it and I want to try and take care of it myself. The fan is really revving fast and it's VERY loud. For some reason, it doesn't do it when I have the air conditioner on and the room is cool.

It didn't do it when I first got it, but now it does it constantly. I don't know what kind of fan it is or what to do... help!

Some boards have temp cotrolled fans. My first thought would be somehow the settings would of been changed. Or, how old is the machine. It could be getting too dusty and just not cooling off well enough

The machine is 1 year old. It's definitely not dusty. It seems as though the temp. has an effect because when I have the AC on, it's as quiet as a mouse. What could it be???

Uuuuhhh.... AC=Cool temp

Try removing the fan connector (when the computer is off of course) and run it without the fan for moment.

What would that do?
If it's the CPU fan it would stop cooling the heatsink and allow your CPU to get hotter than it was/is. Don't worry about the fan speeding up very fast, it DOES have to do with temperature. When it gets hotter, it speeds up more (AC off) and when it gets cooler it slows down (AC on).

What are normal fan speeds and temps? I installed motherboard monitor and I'm running 52 degrees on the CPU and 30 on the case. The fan speed is currently 4166 rpm.

Well... sounds like its a temp controlled fan

Well normal depends on the fan and the ambient and core temps ... i.e., a crapload of possibilities ... even then rpm doesnt mean that much ... the CFM is more important
