I need help with Quake

Hi. I have a CD of the original quake but apparently it only works on ms-dos and win 95. After my laptop (works with windows xp or me or something) says it has installed quake I find a file called quake on the hard drive and click on everything inside it. The only thing which reacts is called quake.exe: it causes the title screen to flick up for a split second and disappear. I right clicked on everything within the folder and did the "change compatability" thing to Win 95. It still doesn't work. Any ideas? Pleeeeeze!

PS - Please give your answer in foolproof writing as I'm no expert with these machines.

Why are you a fool? LOL I'm J/K ;-).

This is the only way I can think of without using emulation.

- Put your Quake CD in the CD rom and open it's contents.

- Create a shortcut to the instal .exe on your desktop.

- Right click on the Instal .exe and goto properties.

- Click on compatibility tab and set it for Windows 95, Click apply, click OK.

- now double click on the icon to instal the game, delete the instal.exe icon.

- If game does not run still then double click on the icon used to launch the game and repeat the steps to set to compatibility mode.

- If game still does not run then Google for a DOS emulater and good luck ;-).

Edit:

Oh ya and if the game does not instal with the compatibility mode suggested then once again Google for a DOS emulater.
