I need internet help.

I am new to the world of (what I think of as) fast Internet connections. In the past my computer has always used a so-called 56Kb dial-up connection (which downloads at a steady rate of 4.6 Kb per second - I'm not joking). I just bought a new Dell laptop with a wireless card. My neighbors have fast Internet connections and 'open' wireless networks. I doubt I can resist the temptation to use their networks, but I feel this would be dishonest (and possibly illegal), so have decided to get a more modern connection. I know nothing about these connections or the sort of modem I would need etc. Can someone please explain these things to me.

I've heard some drawbacks about wireless while still being hardwired dsl with desktops on a router. Your service provider usually has a support site with tips for troubleshooting connection problems along with support request links. You would probably need a wireless Lan card added to the laptop there. But once it was running you would be a world apart from a dialup nightmare! Hang in here and you'll see a few good responses as well as advice from those with wireless setups.

If the router you get is compatible with your ISP there shouldn't be a problem. And make sure you setup a WEP key for your wireless network. Your neighbours may not be as honest as yourself

Hello there....sorry for distubing...

I have 1GB RAM in my desktop but it still hangs...
It hangs randomly not because of particular program is opened...

Could a portforwarding I did to my modem causes my PC to hang...???

Plz help... Thanx...

There are a number of things that can cause system locks and temporary freezes. Driver conflicts, damaged or missing files, overheating of one or more hardwares, hardware faults, and even simple configuration issues. Reducing the amount of things that startup along with Windows, defragging the hard drive on a periodic basis, keeping video and sound drivers updated can often help prevent a problem like you are seeing now. It could be the modem drivers have a need for removal and reinstall when Windows asks for a driver disk upon a fresh detection of your modem. Or the modem is failing to run properly with the new settings due to a resource conflict of some type.
