my girlfiriend has a G4 Imac with 256 ram and it needs upgraded!!!! really badly!!!!

is it possible to puy just 512 of am in? i kinda dont get this whole ram thing, i know it can take 2gb ram and she has 256 and this is not off the limit.

i have to be told that its cool to run 256 and 512 together cos i have too haha ram aint my strong point! thanks all!!!!:D
 
If you add a 512mb stick of memory install it to the first slot. It will have to be the same type in order to work along with the 256mb already installed. That will give a total of 768mb of ram. For a dual channel board you would want a pair of 512mbs for each channel. Either way look at the current memory to see if it is single or double sided and know whether it is PC2100, PC2700, PC3200, PC3500, etc. before buying new.
