I want to burn a file I've created with Video editor that I'm getting familiar with - to a DVD so I can delete it off my HDD - and DVR Cable Box. At the moment - I've hit a stump in using the Video Editor to actually create a DVD - but I've got the final video rendered to MPG format.

If I want to use a separate software to burn the disk to a DVD-R - will mpg format work - and play in a standard DVD Player - or do I need to convert the file to some other format and then burn it to DVD.

Thanks

Most DVD players support MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 formats which are VCD and SVCD. I would recommend converting your file to one of these formats with the following Lifehacker recommended freeware:

Then simply burn with Nero or whatever burning software you're comfortable with and you shouldn't have any problems at all!
