I need to format.....

this computer of mine, but the software that came with my system only allows me to do a "System Restoration" (which just isn't cutting it for me). Twice, in one evening, I have gone through this procedure for the purpose of ridding myself of a few problems. But they yet exist, and I know the only way that I will be able to turn things around (with my very basic knowledge of computering) is by formatting. I don't have a floppy drive on my system, so will have to do it via some CD method. Does anyone know of how I might best deal with this?
