Why can't you just get more ram and a better gfx? I think that comp has AGP 8x, but I'm not sure.

i know but i've just heard bad stuff about my emachines and i've had it a while so it probably has stuff really slowing it down :X, but if i did buy all the stuff i posted in my first post would i still have windows xp or no?

???

Not sure if I understand your q, but if you get a new hdd, no you won't have XP. If you put the old hdd in your new comp, you could use the system recovery disks to boot off of it

So i'd have could i use the new hard drive and the old one on my new comp and then once i get everything put together i just use the restore disc from emachines on my old hard drive.. in the comp i built? and if i build one what parts do i need.. cuz this is what i had planned
case
hard drive
ram
mobo
processor
heatsink&fan
video card

I dont care if you laugh at anything i did wrong, just help me make it right.. and if your kool you can tell me what else i need

Looks good

You should be able to use a set of recovery disks, just make sure you build it with the old hdd, then add in tthe new one later as a slave

Or, (maybe) you could burn a cd with the system files, then just boot off of it, I'm not sure if that would work

there's no other parts i'd need... like since the hard drive is oem are there any extra cords.. or any extra fans i should get.. so where would i find the files i could burn and what parts should i use from my emachines.. the 2 disc drives? anything else?

i'm also at 729.28 with no tax or shipping so should are there any accessories i should buy or just save the money to get like a cool game or something :P

I hadn't realized that was oem, so yes, you would need a SATA cord

You should use whichever of th emachines drives has the OS...

Check under C:\Windows or something like that...

I'm not even sure if that would work, just a spur of the moment thought

I don't think you need anything else, but my advice would be to not get an oem hdd, maybe here:

www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=22-144-351&depa=1
or
www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=22-144-314&DEPA=0

or you can just get the cable:
www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=12-104-150&DEPA=0

Whichever, it is your choice

so i should just buy then i should just buy windows xp and sata cord..
so wait can i use the disc drives? or tell me what you mean cuz i didnt really understand that much :/

You can use the hdds out of your old comp, yes. I'm not sure if it will automatically boot off of it or not, though. That's why you might need the recovery disks

i dont think i could burn all that stuff from windows folder.. how much of it do i need?
lol what is hdds :D

The whole windows folder, mine is 2.4gb Might need a dvd for that, then

I think it would be easiest to just use your old hdds (hard drives) in your new computer, then use the recovery disks.

But I am not sure if that would work, I don't see why it wouldn't, but I have never tried it....

Anybody else out there know if this'll work???

i only have 1 hard drive but yea... i was talking about using like the dvd burner and the other disc drive. i can still use those right?

the tattoo should still be intact( if your hdd is ok) , you may have to install some drivers and get some errors as it will be a different setup than is expected by the recovery discs, but it should work......... :P
