I need to upgrade my pc - how much and where to start?

hello
i have a really really slow pc because of a mix of it being out of date and being filled with files so have decided to upgrade to some newer bits and pieces

my current specs are

amd athlon 64 x2
core processer 5200+ ??
2.61ghz
2gb ram
nvidia 8400gs


i am a complete newby to upgrading and dont want to really spend more than £200 on an upgrade. i however would like to play the latest games (mw2,dirt 2,bfbc2,gta iv) at high/full settings @ 1680*1050 res!!

geforce6100sm-m = i dont understand the sm-m bit though and

i am not sure on the psu

download CPU-Z and tell me what model.
It is essential if you want to upgrade the CPU.

PSU - Open the case and have a look. It is essential coz you will need a powerful PSU for a more powerful video card.

Is your current machine from dell/ HP/ Acer, etc? If yes, just tell me the brand and model number.

With only 400W PSU, you could get an ati 5670.

However, you won't be able to upgrade CPU unless you change the motherboard...

Option 1 - Upgrade PSU + Video card.
Upgrade CPU + Mobo + RAM when you have extra money.
