What I'm trying to do is burn a mpeg movie files to a blank dvd. I was told that I have to convert the mpeg format to mpeg 2 format. I was also told I have to convert the mpeg movie file to an img format before burning so my home dvd player can read. Cause that is my objective. I had somebody trying to walk me threw this. But I'm not what you would call computer literate. He told me to download a program called alcohol 120% I did so. But I'm still having problems with the program. I tried the program Aurora and a some others with all the same answer, I'm an idiot. If one of you kind people could walk me step by step through a program that I can do this I would greately appreciate it. Thank you very much for all your time. If you want to e-mail me my address is [email protected]. Thanks again

Yeah you wanna ensure that the file is DVD compliant. Run the file through AVICodec first to see if it's compliant. Either way its better to be safe so use the instructions here to convert it with TMPGEnc

http://www.computerforum.com/showthread.php?t=4755

Ok so you've converted it, then you need to get a DVD author program, like dvdlab or TMPGEnc DVD Author and add in any menu etc, then it will be converted and you will get two folders, Video_TS and Audio_TS. Now you need Nero Burning Rom. Select a New compilation>DVD-Video>new. Use the windows to drag the files from your Video_TS folder on the File Browser on the left to the Video_TS folder on the left. Click Burn the current compilation, select a slow speed, and burn.

(It is not necessary to convert them to IMG files)

Good Luck!

I encoded the whole file. I'm confused on the next part. What you said about add in any menu. I made a folder on my desktop, so that after the file is done encoding it will go there. Then I opened up my nero and draged over the two files that were in there and burnt them. I didn't even try them on my home dvd, I first tried them in my computer but only audio plays no picture. I hoping you can tell me what I did wrong. Thanks

Nero needs the files to be VOBs and IFOs in order to burn them as a DVD-video file. So I'm guessing that you just took the files you got from TMPGEnc and burned them, but you need to first 'author' them. http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvdlab_review.cfm Try using this guide/review to help take you through the authoring process. http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/ When you complete this authoring process, you will most likely have 2 folders, AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. In VIDEO_TS there will be VOBs and IFOs. In Nero you would make a New Compilation>DVD>DVD-Video and drop all of the files from VIDEO_TS on your HD to the new compilation. You may wish to refer to this guide http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/burning_dvd_with_nero.cfm
