If you've got this far i'm hoping you'll be kind enough to offer some advce to a newbie.

I'm trying to install 1Gb RaM into my computer which currently has a 512 installmed.
My computer is a Packard Bell Imedia 1408 and I'm trying to install a DDIM DDR 1 GB PC 3200 (hope that makes sense - it's made by PNY technologies).

I seated the RAM in the computer next to the existing RAM but when I turn the computer on it produces a series of long beeps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.:)

The ram may not be compatible.

Remove the 512mb and boot up with just the 1gb..

I'm gonna assume you have 2 channels (slots) for ram and not 4 on your motherboard right?

If you have 4 space the ram apart..like channel 1 and 3.

Did you try the stick in all the slots... maybe a slot is bad?

Also try putting the 512 back in all slots and see if you recreate the beeps, maybe something else coincidentally failed. Are you getting any video.

What is the exact beep code.

I've now tried every combination I can think of.

Both the old 512 and the new 1GB in a channel, then swapped them around in each chanel. This still made the beeping noise.

Then the new 1GB on it's own in each channel and again the beeping noise.

The 512 on it's own however works fine in each channel.

When the beeping is on there's nothing showing on the monitor at all.

The beep is a series of three beeps, followed by a pause and then it just repeats.

What Bios do you have... put the 512 in and it should tell you on the main screen when it does all the system tests... you might have to hit a key to show POST messages.

So when you put your 512 megabytes of RAM back in, your system works fine. In my opinion, I don't think that memory is compatible with your motherboard or that module of memory is bad. You may want to try this memory out in another motherboard that uses DDR memory.

I would return the memory and try another brand of random access memory.

According to pny's website, the model number of memory you need is 64A0TPDXA for the 1gb stick. What model do you have? That system does support 2 gb total with 1gb in each slot.

I think the model number is D1GBN16T400Q-SB.

I can't be 100% certain as I haven't got the RAM at hand.

Thanks for all the help so far...
