Sorry, I didn't see anywhere else to post this. My icon for internet explorer has some strange characters with it now. Windows showed me a warning the other day that someone from IP address blah blah blah, is trying to access my computer. After that I ran virus programs and spyware programs. Now I have this weird thing on IE. The characters are like squares and one number 4. I haven't noticed anything different other than that, But I am terrified that someone can get my bank and other personal info.. Please give some advise!!!

Thanks,

Ben

Sorry to state the obvious mate but don't do any online banking, lol.

Second thing to do could be update spyware software and antivirus and also firewall. Scan your computer, clear everything any anything dodgy.

LOL... Yeah i know about the online banking...It's just that my bank has that no liability policy for online banking. I still don't want anyone to get it though... You know how that is. So with virus scan and spysweeper and all of that good stuff, I should be able to clear off any way that a hacker has to get into my computer???

Have a firewall.

Format your drive and install another OS with an administrator passwrd. If anyone tries to acess it, they will have to go get the password

Yeah, Antivirus and Anti-Spyware software should get rid of it, a firewall will stop anybody using anything thats left.

yes, RedHat is Linux.

Just because you are installing Linux doesn't mean don't get a Firewall. I would get a hardware firewall like a router.

Anything is hackable it's just that linux is not as friendly to hack.

Thanks for all the help guys..
changing the OS will solve that problem, but taking some linux lessons would be required.
take adaware, spybot and run scans on your drive(s). take a seperate firewall like zonealert (what went on 3rd place on security level) for free.

i would suggest to get IE 6 + service packs, + get the security test from MS.
download mozilla and make it as your main browser, block IE with wall and just open if IE is needet (some MS sides want you to use IE).

creating another account with lower level is also an idea if you would use it (i run only admin level), but if you have XP you should get SP2 + SP2 updates plus finally get the XP-Antispy

hope it will help you
ciao
