I think I fried my hard drive

k so I went to turn off my ext. HDD and I touched it and it shocked me (static electricity) and all of a sudden it shuts off. The status light on the enclosure is still on but the HDD is not spinning. I could smell a little burning too. Do you think it's gone? I'm guessing it is.

oh and another thing, the G drive is still on My Computer which is my external HDD. All the files are there even when it's off but they won't open either way.

you might have...
try unplugging everything from the external drive and plugging it back in, I doubt it'll work but give it a go.
also, is this a real external HDD or is it in an external enclosure with a HDD in it?

I'm sure the files are just showing from Cache and what not. Reboot your machine and they'd go away.

My guess(hope) is you just fried the enclosure and not the drive itself. I'd pop the enclosure open and try to locate exactly what burnt. If the drive still looks alright, I'd pop it into the computer. I suspect it'll be alright and you'll simply need a new enclosure for the drive.

It's an external enclosure with a hard drive in it.

I popped it open and everything looked fine. I'll put it into my computer later today and see what I get and put an update on here later.

K I put the hard drive in my computer but it still wouldn't work. So I'm thinking it's fried. Rosewill, who is the company of my enclosure said it was shock proof so I'm gonna talk to them to see whats up.
