I think I have a Virus?

I think my computer may have a virus. I am currently on another computer at the moment (which is mega slow) anyway my computer loads up windows xp fine but I cant seem to open any programs. The computer seems to have no memory, and I also have issue shutting down.

I booted the computer in "safe mode" and ran my spy ware but I cant run my virus scanner keeps saying "Cant initialize engine. Scan aborted"

Do you guys have any idea how I can fix my computer as I have no idea.

I think the best and the safest way is to format your hard disk and install windows fro scratch instead of trying to search for the virus.

You might want to format the partition containing the windows only, but if you are having a powerfull virus, you might need to format your whole hard disk.
 
You could give this a shot if you want:

Download avg, and the latest definitions, put them on a cd or flash drive or something. go the hosed computer, boot to safemode, install avg with definitions and scan in safemode. afterwards if all is ok, you'll need to either reinstall your av prog, or uninstall it and use the avg.

If none of that works then i agree, you'd be better of reformatting/restoring...
 
download stinger at vil.nai.com/vil/stinger see if it helps before you do something major like format for hard drive!
 
You should download an Free Anti virus utility.... Avast Anti virus ...
and scan your computer.
Its a free program so you should atleast give it a try.
But remember...you should not have two Anti Virus programs installed on your computer at a time...
