I think my mobo died

Ok the computer has been acting up alot. just recently it wouldnt shut down properly through the widows start menu. A little before that the hard drives sometimes would just not really register like the sata cords were loose. Now today the computer would power on but the monitor said that there was no connection. Also to note that the computer did not make any beeping sounds when powering on. So i took it apart and tried both hard drives on a different computer and there was no problem.

SO is the mobo dead?
next i currently am running a amd 4400+ socket 939 and was just thinking of picking up another cheap mobo but am also thinking if i can upgrade the mobo without upgrading the cpu and then upgrading the cpu later? its probably wishful thinking but i figured that I would try.:D

socket 939 will be hard to find a mobo for without using ebay or something along those lines, i think your better off buying a new board/cpu/ram and doing that

Socket 939 is a dead socket. If you can find a cheap used board, that would be ok. But I would not waste money upgrading it anymore.

:eek:I just checked the power supply and saw it is measured at a stable 220w.
I thought I was at least a little closer to 300w. I helped a friend of mine build the computer at a local shop and i remember them asking what psu do you want and I told them whatever would run the system is fine. Then later we wanted to watch hd 1080p movies since she bought a large hdtv and I realized how important a psu is when I was shopping for a video card.

psu 220w
cpu amd athlon dual core 4400+
3 1g of ram
and everything else computers need

All right so now im seeing that the cpu is an am2 socket (i dont know why i thought it was a 939) which seems to imply that i could pick up an am2+ board and be able to resue everything and then later on upgrade the psu and cpu. I would love to build a brand new computer using all the latest offerings but in reality this computer currently does everything I want it to do without a problem.

Im considering the Biostar TA790GXE 128M which supports some of the 6 core amds but is more expensive and i prob wont be upgrading to the 6 cores any time soon (price new about $60)
Or go for the gigabyte GA-M52L-S3 which supports phenom x4 955 95w for a used price of about 20 dollars

On the same note of still trying to save money the dealers locally offer amd chips that they have already tested to see if you could unlock the 4th core and so i think that i need to try to put this into my criteria of what board i want as well. So maybe an unlocked athlon x2 220 (phenom x4 920)?
