Hi

I want to add some memory to my PC if it will let me.

I opened up the back and there 4 slots, 2 of which currently have a 2GB memory card in each.

2 of the slots are blue the other 2 black, can I add more memory to try and speed my pc up?

Its a HP P6013 uk by the way, around 2 years old.

A search of "HP P6013uk specs" took me to HP's website. The specification sheet indicates that this computer will support up to four 2GB DDR2 memory cards, so it should have no problem with adding two more 2GB memory cards to the currently unused slots.

Please verify that your OS is 64-bit, although with the computer being relatively new this should not be a problem. If the OS is 32-bit, then it will not be able to use the additional memory anyway.

Adding memory only shows a significant improvement if you are using all or near all of what you currently have. It may be worth watching the memory usage to determine if you are using all four GBs that you currently have. I put 16GBs in my computer, because I run a 3-D CAD software and big models require a large amount of RAM. In day to day usage, I see peaks around 3GB being used so I see no benefit of the added memory.

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi there

You can use the memory advisor and it will let you know how much memory your motherboard supports and what kind of RAM to get...

I googled your desktop and it looks like its a dual core pentium and has 4 gigs of memory. Going to 8 might help a bit but I doubt it. A format would probally be the best bet... Are you using windows vista by any chance?
